Which charging cable should I get for my Hyundai Kona Electric

As with most modern electric vehicles, the Hyundai Kona Electric has a CCS Type 2 charge port on the vehicle and so requires a (16A or 32A) Type 2 to Type 2 cable for charging.

The Type 2 plug is a seven-pin design and is the standard throughout Europe. As such, this connector type can be found at nearly all UK (non-Tesla) public charging stations. If you notice two larger pins at the bottom of your vehicle charge inlet, don’t fret – these are used for connecting with DC rapid charging cables, which come tethered at some charge points. Be sure to make the most of DC rapid charging when you have access to one of these!

The maximum charge rate of the Hyundai Kona Electric is 7.2kW if charging via a 32A (Amps) single-phase supply (the UK domestic standard), or 11kW if charging using a 16A 3-phase supply. A 3-phase supply is uncommon for a home, but used widely at bigger buildings, petrol/service stations, supermarkets, hospitals etc.

Regardless of whether you use a 16A or 32A charger cable, your vehicle will charge at the correct rate as determined by your vehicle and the charging station. Since the vast majority of homes use a single-phase electricity supply, you will only require a single-phase 32A cable for home charging.
