As the UK government’s Net Zero deadline approaches, each year highlights a new range of exciting electric vehicles on offer, and 2023 is set to be an electrifying year for new releases.

In 2022 we saw a welcome rise in EV adoption from UK drivers, not to mention the installation of many new EV charging stations across the country. According to new electric car statistics published on Heycar’s website ‘electric car sales increased by 40% in 2022 and EVs enjoyed another record year with more than one in ten new vehicles being electric.’

As new electric vehicle sales trend and fuelled vehicles start to decline, could 2023 finally be the year that EVs go mainstream?

Let’s have a look at the EV’s heading to the UK this year:

1. Lotus Eletre

The stylish and sporty Lotus Eletre is an all-electric Hyper SUV. The Eletre is set to include features such as: the latest aerodynamics, the world’s first LiDAR system – which generates a 3d map of the vehicle’s surroundings, autonomous driving, an OLED HD central screen, and ultra-fast charging capabilities – charging up to 80% in just 20 minutes.

The Eletre comes with a 112kWh battery capacity, providing a WLTP certified range up to 373 miles, and achieves 0-62mph in less than three seconds. The Eletre is expected to be made available to UK drivers around March 2023.

2. MG Cyberster

The sleek high-tech MG Cyberster will be MG’s first all-electric 2-seater sports EV. The Cyberster is currently still in the design stages but is teased to feature: scissor doors, a gaming cockpit, 5G connectivity, an acceleration speed of 0-62mph in under three seconds, interactive headlights, and LED strip lights.

The Cyberster is estimated to provide up to 500 miles of range, and was initially expected to reach the UK in 2024, however there have been teasers suggesting that this EV could reach the UK by the end of 2023.

3. Munro MK_1

The powerful, all-terrain Munro MK_1 is an electric vehicle specially designed for off-road and is set to include features such as: acceleration in 0-60mph in under five seconds, can travel through water levels up to 80cm high, ultra-high reinforcement with a steel chassis and an aluminium body, 5 seats, 5 doors, a towing capacity of 3,400kg, and a payload capacity of 1000kg.

Munro’s MK_1 will be made available in three different variants: Utility, Range, and Performance, which will feature battery sizes between 61.2kWh and 82.4kWh, providing up to 186 miles, with a choice of two electric motors. Munro is set to start delivering a small number of MK_1 EVs in 2023, with deliveries set to increase in 2024.

4. Rolls Royce Spectre

The luxurious and athletic Rolls Royce Spectre is an all-wheel drive super coupé, and is set to feature: an all-aluminium spaceframe, an acceleration speed of 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds, a spectacular interior design inspired by the stars with soft lights providing a starlit night sky experience, a digital Spirit dashboard, and remote Whispers interactivity.

The Spectre will come complete with a 100kWh sized battery, providing an estimated range of up to 285 miles from a single charge, and is expected to be released in the UK towards the end of this year in November.

5. Vauxhall Astra

The bold and distinctive Vauxhall Astra Electric is an all-new electric hatchback featuring the same design style as previous hybrid and fuelled models. The Astra Electric is set to include features such as: rapid charging capability in around 30 minutes, a 114kW electric motor, the latest driver aids and safety features, voice recognition software, and a 20-inch Pure Panel Pro screen showing the vehicle’s battery level and remaining range.

The Astra Electric will come complete with a 54kWh battery, providing a WLTP certified range of up to 258 miles, and UK deliveries are expected in June this year.
