Electric Vehicles Eligible for the UK Government’s Latest Plug-In Grant

The UK government’s newly launched Electric Car Grant is part of a £650 million initiative to boost EV adoption and reach net-zero targets. This scheme offers up to £3,750 discount off the list price of qualifying electric vehicles.. No consumer applications are required as discounts apply directly at point of sale.

Grant Eligibility: Two Bands, Two Discount Levels

The grant discount depends on the vehicle’s environmental production credentials:

  • Band 1 (Top-tier green credentials): providing £3,750 off a qualifying vehicle.

  • Band 2 (Still sustainable, but not top-tier): £1,500 off a qualifying vehicle.

Only manufacturers can apply for vehicle eligibility, so buyers can enjoy the discount with no application needed on their part.

Electric Taxis Eligible for UK Gov’s Plug-In Grant Incentive

Taxi drivers looking to switch to zero-emission vehicles can also benefit from the UK Government’s Plug-In Taxi Grant, which offers up to £4000 off the purchase price of eligible electric taxis. This is applied directly at the point of sale by approved dealers—meaning no paperwork for the driver.

To qualify, the taxi must be a purpose-built vehicle, have emissions of less than 50g/km, and be able travel at least 70 miles with zero emissions. Currently the only eligible vehicle is the LEVC TX. However, more vehicles may be added later. Full details and approved models can be found on the GOV.UK Plug-In Taxi Grant page.
