Kia Soul EV Charging Cable Guide

Released in 2017 the Kia Soul EV was one of the manufacturer's early attempts at producing an electric vehicle. The earlier Soul EV can often be seen around the UK and is the ideal choice for many drivers, with the later versions including more modern features.

What cable do I need for an Kia Soul EV?

As part of the first wave of modern EV's the earlier Soul EV uses a Type 1 connector which is now rarely seen in the European market. This is also different from the subsequent Soul EV electric models which have adopted the standardised Type 2 connector.

To maximise compatibility with in-home and public charging points, our Type 1 cables have the widely accepted Type 2 connection type. This ensures you should always be able to find a charging point you can use, no matter where you are.

The most recent Soul's onboard charger can handle a maximum charge rate of 7.2kW, with our cables being fully capable of handling the highest charge speed the vehicle can accept through that connection. This means that our three-phase cables will be fully compatible with the latest model of the Kia Soul EV, however they will charge at a maximum rate of 7.2kW.

Depending on your situation you may need to consider purchasing a cable that is more flexible. Fortunately, at EVwired our 5 metre cables are available in two different versions. 'Straight' which is our standard cable and 'coiled' which, like a phone wire, can be manipulated more easily. While an outstretched coiled cable is still 5 metres in length, it is better suited to tight spaces and awkward angles.

Kia Soul EV charging speed and range

The battery charge for the Kia Soul EV will get you a range of 281 miles, giving it enough range for most trips.

Charging times are an important consideration for any EV driver. Depending on your charge box set up an EVwired cable will take between 9 hours to fully charge your vehicle, which makes overnight top-ups ideal and easy. The wide availability of public charging stations means that you will never be caught short.

Why purchase an EVwired cable?

Each cable is made from polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), which is hard wearing and remarkably weather resistant, in both hot and cold climates. Our cables also boast an IP55 rating, which means they are well protected against dust and almost unaffected by water. Can the cable still be used in the rain? Yes! So there is no need to panic if your cable gets caught outside or if the weather turns when you’re out and about.

Each purchase comes with a high-quality EVwired carry bag which makes it easy to transport our cables during the school/work run and beyond. As the number of charging points up and down the UK increases, stopping for a top-up has never been easier, better yet our cables can be used at any Type 2 public charge point or home charge point.

Do not worry though! No matter which of our cables you choose to use, the Kia onboard charger will automatically charge at the rate determined by the cable and the charging station.

At EVwired we have great confidence in the cables that we offer – and to give you peace of mind – each cable purchase comes with a 5-year warranty. Our UK based support is ready to help with any queries or questions that you may have.
