Electric Vans Eligible for the UK Government’s Plug-In Grant Incentive

Electric Vans Eligible for the UK Government’s Plug-In Grant Incentive

Electric Vans & the UK Plug-In Grant

If you’re running a business or managing a fleet, switching to an electric van is a smart move—both financially and environmentally. The UK Government’s Plug-In Grant offers significant discounts on new electric vans, helping you cut costs and reduce your carbon footprint from day one.

The grant is automatically applied at the point of sale when buying from a registered dealer, so there’s no separate application process for you to complete.

Full details are available on the official GOV.UK Plug-In Van Grant page.

How Much Can You Save?

The savings depend on the size of the electric van you choose:

  • Small electric vans

    • Grant value: 35% of the purchase price, up to a maximum of £2,500.

    • Eligible Vans: Citroën ë-Berlingo, Ford e-Transit Courier, Peugeot e-Partner, Vauxhall Combo-e and many more.

  • Large electric vans

    • Grant value: Up to a maximum of £5,000 off eligible vans.

    • Eligible Vans: Mercedes eSprinter, Ford E-Transit, LEVC VN5, Renault Kangoo E-Tech, Vauxhall Vivaro-e, and many more.

The grant applies to new electric vans that meet strict emissions and range requirements.

Eligibility Criteria for Electric Vans

To qualify for the Plug-In Van Grant, a vehicle must:

  1. Be fully electric with emissions of less than 50g/km.

  2. Meet the minimum range requirement of 60 miles (96 km).

  3. Be listed as an eligible model on the GOV.UK approved list.

  4. Have a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of less than 2,500kg for small vans and be between 2,500kg and 4,250kg for large vans.

Charging & Running an Electric Van

Electric vans can be charged at:

  • Home or depot charging points (ideal for overnight charging).

  • Public charging networks for top-ups during the day.

  • Rapid DC chargers for quick turnaround between jobs.

Using the right Type 2 charging cable ensures safe, efficient charging—whether you’re plugging in at work or on the road.
